Soccer runs deep in the Cox family home in Wagoner. Brooklyn Cox is the latest member of the family to play for the Lady Bulldogs soccer team and is the youngest of four girls who have all played for Wagoner over the years. Her father was an All-State soccer player in high school and coached the girls during their formative years.
Brooklyn is a four-year starter for the Bulldogs and plays attacking midfielder. Kaitlyn Bruce is Cox’s third coach in her four years at Wagoner and was full of praise for the senior leader.
“Brooklyn has grown up on the soccer field and has a very high soccer IQ as a result. She’s intense, brings the energy and plays hard. She’s a team captain and is really the organizer of our midfield,” said Bruce.
Cox admits that playing for so many different head coaches over the years has been somewhat of a challenge but has taken it in stride as she has her leadership role this year.
“It’s been difficult for me to adjust to each new coach in addition to some changes that were happening on my competitive team as well, but I learned to adapt to different styles of play and just rolled with it,” said Brooklyn who’s been playing club soccer for seven years. “Being a good leader starts with being coachable because if you’re not, then you can’t pass along to the others what the coach is telling you. You also have to be willing to accept criticism from your teammates.”
The 2026 season has been the best of her career at Wagoner according to Brooklyn.
“One of my goals at the start of the season was to create a family environment on our team and I think we’ve done that. This year has been the highlight of my time at Wagoner. We won our own tournament this year which was important to me and the environment has been so perfect. Everyone is getting along so well, we’ve been winning (a 9-5 record going into the playoffs this week) and even when we’ve lost, we’ve learned lessons from those losses. I’m so happy that I was able to be a part of it and I’m really going to miss this group of girls I got to play with this year.”
Brooklyn will continue her soccer career next fall at Coffeyville Community College and start on her path to eventually becoming a veterinarian.
