THOUGHTS ON THE NEW TRANSFER RULE-sponsored by Advanced Family Eyecare

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association recently amended the rules under which a student athlete my transfer from one school to another, Under the old rules a student had to establish some kind of residency in their new district and was required to sit out a year before being eligible to play. Under the new rule, an athlete is allowed one free transfer that would not require residency or time lost restrictions.

Reactions have been mixed among school coaches and administrators and VYPE spoke with Wagoner’s veteran football coach and athletic director Dale Condict to get his thoughts on the change.

“I think it was kind of inevitable that it was going to happen with all that’s going on in college football now with the transfer portal and I understand why the OSSAA did it. I think for schools like ours it could be beneficial. We’ve got highly successful programs in place in many of our sports and the upgrades we have made such as to the football stadium or are planning to make with a new arena planned and new turf on the baseball and softball fields in the near future will be big marketing pluses for us and marketing is really what a lot of this comes down to-how marketable or attractive is your program to a youngster or their parents thinking about a change?
