The Wagoner Bulldogs Athletic Department exists to provide students with a topofthelinestudentathlete experience that prepares them for life after graduation.

StudentAthlete Code of Conduct
Expectations of All StudentAthletes
Student-athletes are expected to:
- Represent Wagoner with class, pride, and integrity
- Treat coaches, teammates, officials, opponents, and fans with respect
- Be on time and prepared for practices, meetings, and competitions
- Give maximum effort at all times
- Follow all school, OSSAA, and team rules
Academic Responsibility
- Student-athletes are students first
- Maintain eligibility and academic standards
- Communicate proactively with teachers and coaches
- Use time management skills to balance academics and athletics
Behavior & Sportsmanship
- No use of profanity, taunting, or disrespectful behavior
- Accept coaching and correction with a growth mindset
- Win with humility; lose with dignity
Parent Code of Conduct
Parents and guardians play a critical role in the development of student-athletes. We ask parents
to partner with us by modeling the same values we expect from our athletes.
Parents are expected to:
- Support the mission and philosophy of Wagoner Athletics
- Encourage effort, improvement, and character—not just outcomes
- Respect coaches’ decisions regarding playing time and strategy
- Allow coaches to coach and athletes to compete
- Demonstrate positive sportsmanship at all events
Apropriate Parent Behavior Includes:
- Cheering positively for all Wagoner athletes
- Addressing concerns calmly and respectfully
- Trusting the coaching process
Inappropriate Parent Behavior Includes:
- Coaching from the stands
- Publicly criticizing athletes, coaches, or officials
- Using social media to air grievances
- Confronting coaches during or immediately after contests
Communication Guidelines (Open Communication Model)
Healthy communication is encouraged and expected when handled appropriately.
What to Do First
Student-athletes should:
- Talk directly with their coach first
- Ask questions respectfully and seek clarification
When Parents Should Become Involved
Parents may contact coaches regarding:
- Safety concerns
- Academic concerns
- Behavioral or emotional wellbeing
24Hour Rule
Parents should wait at least 24 hours after a contest before contacting a coach about concerns.
This allows emotions to settle and conversations to be productive.
Appropriate Topics for Discussion
- Athlete’s role and expectations
- How the athlete can improve
- Team policies and procedures
Topics Not Appropriate for Discussion
- Playing time
- Team strategy
- Other athletes
If concerns remain unresolved, parents may contact the Athletic Director to request a meeting.
Playing Time Philosophy
Playing time is earned, not guaranteed.
Coaches consider:
- Effort and attitude
- Practice habits
- Skill development
- Team needs
- Commitment to team standards
At the middle school level, emphasis is placed on development and learning fundamentals.
At the high school level, increased emphasis is placed on competition, performance, and team
success.
Commitment & Accountability
Student-athletes are expected to:
- Attend all practices and competitions unless excused
- Communicate conflicts in advance
- Be accountable for equipment and uniforms
Unexcused absences or repeated issues may result in reduced playing time or disciplinary action.
Social Media Expectations
Student-athletes and parents should remember:
- You represent Wagoner Athletics at all times
- What you post reflects on the team, school, and community
- Negative or disrespectful posts may result in consequences
If you wouldn’t say it facetoface, don’t post it.
Discipline & Consequences
Violations of this code may result in:
- Verbal warning
- Loss of playing time
- Suspension from contests
- Removal from the team (for severe or repeated violations)
Discipline decisions are made by coaches and the Athletic Director in alignment with school policy.

Athletics is about more than winning games—it is about preparing students for life.

By participating in Wagoner Athletics, student-athletes and parents acknowledge they have read,
understand, and agree to follow the expectations outlined in this manual.

Parent–Athlete Code & Athletics Manual.
Participation in Wagoner Athletics is a privilege. Failure to adhere to these expectations may result in
disciplinary action as outlined in this manual.
