Wagoner’s Karson Klinger – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Redbud Physical Therapy Wagoner

Football has taught Wagoner senior Karson Klinger that success rarely comes from the moments everyone sees. Instead, it is built through preparation, discipline and a willingness to put in the work long before kickoff.

That mindset has helped Klinger develop into one of the Bulldogs’ leaders at inside linebacker, where the mental demands of the position are every bit as important as the physical ones.

“The most difficult part of playing my position is the mental aspect,” Klinger said. “Making the calls and understanding your fits, as well as other people’s assignments, can be difficult without preparation.”

For Klinger, mastering those responsibilities requires countless hours of study and repetition. He believes that same approach applies far beyond football.

“What separates athletes, as well as people in the professional world, is the boring, tedious work over a long period of time,” he said.

That perspective did not develop overnight. Klinger credits his parents for shaping both his faith and his character, giving him an example he hopes to follow in every aspect of life.

“My parents inspire me with their faith and how they treat other people,” he said. “My sister and I couldn’t ask for better parents.”

As he enters his senior season, Klinger has taken on leadership roles both on and off the field. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Athletic Leadership Council while remaining active at First Baptist Church of Tahlequah. In the classroom, history is his favorite subject, and he points to math teacher John French as the educator who has made the biggest impact on him.

While football has provided plenty of memorable experiences, one of Klinger’s favorite sports moments actually came as a fan. He was in attendance when Oklahoma receiver Marvin Mims set the Sooners’ freshman record for receiving touchdowns.

“He gave me his gloves afterward,” Klinger said.

His favorite personal football memory came last season against Bristow.

“My first career catch was against Bristow for a go-ahead touchdown,” he said.

Those moments are special, but they are not what Klinger values most about the game. The relationships built over years of practices, workouts and Friday nights stand above everything else.

“What I enjoy most about being a part of the team is the friendships I have with all the guys,” he said. “I love the feeling of community.”

Before every game, Klinger settles in with music and prayer, routines that help him focus before taking the field. Away from football, he enjoys reading, working out and spending time at Boomerang. As his final high school season begins, Klinger remains committed to the same principles that have guided him all along: faith, preparation and investing in the people around him.
