Wagoner’s Abri Nanni-ICTC Cosmetology Spotlight

This is a story about a real family affair featuring Wagoner senior Abri Nanni. In addition to being a key member of the Bulldog volleyball team, Abri is also enrolled in the Cosmetology program at Indian Capital Technology Center in Coweta where she plans on getting her state license next spring and join her mother and grandmother at the family salon in Wagoner. “I played volleyball with a girl who took the cosmetology program in Muskogee and since I planned to go into cosmetology anyway, I saw ICTC as a great way to learn more and do it for free instead of going to one of those outside cosmetology schools,” said Abri. “The atmosphere is so positive here and everyone wants you to succeed.” The two-year program at ICTC, which requires 1000 hours of instruction, offers students a chance to get certified in lash extensions and to work with a new hydra-facial machine to perform aesthetics while preparing them to take their written and practical state licensing exams. Abri’s instructor, Megan George, knows that Abri will be successful in the program. “She’s a real hoot and so much fun to be around and she has the added advantage of having family members already in the business. All the students want her to do their hair and nails because she’s so good at it. She has a natural confidence in what she’s doing, and you just can’t teach that,” said George. Her happy-go-lucky temperament in class carries over to her leadership style on the volleyball court as well. “I can be light-hearted on the court but also serious when I need to be and I want to make sure that the underclassmen are always included in what we do,” said Abri who is a member of the National Honor Society at Wagoner. Her senior goals include getting a higher kill rate on the volleyball court where she plays outside hitter and getting her cosmetology license through ICTC.

“I plan to join my mom and grandma at the salon for a couple of years to build up my clientele. I like the art of doing nails and being creative. I’d eventually like to have my own studio to do nails and hair coloring and correction.”
